FAQ

Is the food clean?

Yes, otherwise our hosts would not serve it. Veggies are washed, meat is heated well, rice is cooked. But remember, this is home cooking, not a sterile restaurant.

Do they use MSG?

Yes, and that is not a problem. MSG is a taste enhancer, and it is something the human body produces and it is in tomatoes and broccoli. If you heard otherwise, please read this article about the MSG-myth.

Can I get vegan food?

Unfortunatly not. Our hosts make traditional Khmer homemade food, and that is usually not vegan. Some host can change the menu to vegetarian. Also, there are some great local vegan restaurants in Siem Reap, just send us a message and we will get you in contact with them.

How about vegetarian?

We have a few vegetarian options, depending on the host. Some dishes like beef lok lak are not as tasty in a vegetarian version. We can replace meat with fish of tofu. Please ask us if you have special requirements. with tofu, but meals can contain fish, fish sauce and eggs and milk.

Are peanuts used?

Yes, and we cannot make sure that there are no traces in dishes left. Peanuts are an essential part of Khmer and Asian food.

How do we know where to find the host?

If you prefer not to use our tuk-tuk service, you can easily find the host yourself. We will provide the exact location to help you get there.

We will send you the GPS coordinates, a Google Maps link and a description in English as well as a phone number of our host. Your tuktuk driver can call and they will tell him/her where to go.

The payment link I received says ‘Cambodiajeep’. Is that the right link for my Dine with the Locals booking?

Once we receive your booking request, we will send you a confirmation including a payment link. Please note that the payment link is issued by Cambodiajeep, as Dine with the Locals does not yet have its own integrated payment system.

Rest assured, Cambodiajeep is our sister company. We personally ensure that all payments are distributed to our Dine with the Locals hosts on time. Your booking is in safe hands!

What happen if I cancel the booking?

Cancellations & Refunds

Once a booking is confirmed, a 15% cancellation fee applies to any cancellations made.
For cancellations made less than 5 days before the activity starts, a 50% fee applies.

For cancellations within 48 hours of the scheduled activity, the fee is 100%.

Please understand that nearly all Dine with the Locals experiences are private and uniquely prepared for you. It is often impossible for our hosts to find new guests on such short notice. We kindly ask for your consideration regarding their time and preparations.

However, if we are able to find new guests for your specific date after you cancel, we will gladly provide an 85% refund

Are Dine With The Locals activities also available on other platforms such as GetYourGuide and Viator

No, Dine With The Locals activities are not listed on other platforms like GetYourGuide or Viator. The reason is that they charge very high fees—up to 35% of the sales price. We find this unreasonable and prefer to promote our own platform. This ensures that the money is well spent, stays within Cambodia, and doesn’t disappear to large multinationals.

Administration fee on the invoice. Why?

You may notice an ‘Administration Fee’ on the invoice. We strive to keep our operational costs as low as possible to ensure our hosts can earn a better income. Therefore, we pass on certain costs, such as credit card fees and other administrative expenses. This fee represents 6% of the sale price.
