Have you ever seen a silk farm? Our host Naysim on the outskirts of Phnom Penh has her own silk farm. You can learn how silk is made and even can try weaving and spinning. Afterwards you can help her cooking famous Cambodian dishes like Beef Lok Lak.
Cambodia’s tradition of silk dates back to old times of the Angkor empire. Today, the revival of the weaving and sericulture of Khmer “golden” silk produces a unique modern style that merges the best of hand made traditions with the newest designs to produce luxury silks. Khmer silk is often called the golden silk because of its dark yellow color.
Khmer golden silk has a long tradition
This color comes from the multivoltine cocoon, and the area around Phnom Srok in the northwest of Cambodia is most famous for it. But guests from Phnom Penh don’t have to go that far: Naysim also has finest quality of silk and her own silk worms. she also will tell you why silk worms are crazy for mulberry leaves.
