Soup with pork and gourd
Every Cambodia meal needs a soup, and Sngor trolat is a perfect example. You will cut the gourd, which is like a cucumber (and not bitter at all, then mince the pork and fry it. Some fish sauce is added and water.
Fried pumpkin leaves with pork
Most people know pumpkin as a fruit, but the leaves and flowers are eatable as well. This dish is made from the stems and leaves as well as flowers and stir fried with delicious local pork. You will also learn how to prepare the stems first.
Mango salad with smoked fish
A delicacy where you peel a green mango first, cut into small pieces and then mix with fish sauce and little smoked fish. It is a powerful nutricious dish that keeps you healthy. Since you are making it you can also decide how spicy it should be.
Mr. Theng Him is in his 40s and recently semi-retired After building his new house he decided to rent out the upper rooms to tourists and spend time with travelers. He can explain you a lot about the Khmer culture (ask him about the rice cup in the big bucket) and will take you through his garden. What looks small is actually all you need, and you will take some of the herbs like basil, chili or lemongrass fresh from the plants.
You can also book his upstairs rooms for 18 USD per night.
